There is usually a starting point in every project and this project was no exception. The clients wished to re-create that little bit of Sydney, or more exactly, the spectacular views they left behind from their Seaforth home while living overseas.

The journey began with a party!! I invited these clients to a gallery opening of Australian artists where they fell in love with a painting so reminiscent of home! A wonderful palette of colours set the scene for superb Jim Thompson fabrics resulting in ocean blues in many hues with hints of fiery oranges and natural greens.

Two sofas were made, which included a visit out to the workroom to ensure the right level of cushioning was used. An important aspect of custom made furniture is getting the comfort level right and this area is used for entertaining and relaxing in front of the TV! The fabric was a multi weave cotton blend in keeping with the warm environment and cushions were a mix of plush velvets and succulent silks. Dining chair seats were recovered in heavy natural linen stripes tying in with the silk striped scatter cushions. Further stripes were introduced on 2 beautiful family heirloom chairs that were restored and recovered. There is a true mix of old and modern with estate pieces combined with lacquered cabinetry.

The same is also said for their artwork with old nautical pieces combined with modern artists. The silk shaggy rug was the final piece to complete the room and is an amazing burnt orange reminding us all of sunsets seen while taking holidays back home in Australia and in Asia too.

Another piece of art was purchased by well-known Archibald prizewinner. As it is a nude, the clients wished to put it in their bedroom. A luxurious patterned Belgium fabric was found and fabricated into a throw reflecting all the caramel and mocha hues found in the print. This, along with silk scatter cushions and another old chair covered in a deep chocolate velvet completed the room using simple crisp white linen on the bed.

Their other artworks from Switzerland and beyond adorn the walls throughout their home truly reflecting their spirit of enjoying life.
